Built in 1960, this traditional ranch style home received a modern update to better suit a growing family of four. The project required expanding the home with an addition and opening up the entirety of the space while staying within the footprint of the existing house in order to maintain the original square footage.
In an effort to highlight the expansion while integrating the site context, re-framing was the guiding solution for this project. The former covered back patio was reimagined as the addition and converted into a new living room. The roofline was redefined into a contemporary design which not only added more height to the existing elevations and provided greater scale to the building, but brought more natural light into the living room and master bedroom. When approaching the front of the house, the entryway is immediately defined by vaulted ceilings, a consistent thread that directs all the way to the back patio and opens up the entire space.
